Observing Fog And Low Cloud With A Combination Of 78GHz Cloud Radar And Laser Ceilometer
Results from two demonstration tests of a FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) 78GHz cloud radar are used to examine the radar’s ability to measure low cloud and fog. The first test took place at Payerne, Switzerland (from Nov 2003 to Feb 2004), as part of the COST 720 TUC (Temperature, Humidity & Cloud Profiling) Project; and the second test took place at the Chilbolton Facility for Atmo...
متن کاملMultifractality of Cloud Base Height Profiles
Cloud base height profiles measured with laser ceilometer are studied using multifractal approach. The irregular structure of the signals is a benchmark for nonlinear dynamical processes. A hierarchy of generalized dimensions determines the intermittency of the signal. The multi-affine properties are described by the h(γ) function.
متن کاملNonablative laser skin resurfacing using a 1540 nm erbium glass laser: a clinical and histologic analysis.
BACKGROUND A variety of laser systems have recently become available that allow for selective dermal remodeling without disruption of the epidermal surface. Modest clinical improvement in mild to moderate photoinduced facial rhytides with minimal morbidity is typical of these nonablative lasers, providing a significant advantage over traditional ablative laser systems. OBJECTIVE To determine ...
متن کاملCloud Base Height Estimation Using a Low-cost Digital Camera
Cloud height, wind speed and direction at cloud height play an important role in air safety. This paper presents a low-cost system based on digital consumer cameras to estimate cloud base height. It is shown that both wind speed and direction at cloud level can also be obtained with this system. The method is based on triangulation and uses image registration to identify common cloud features...
متن کاملDual-wavelength single-longitudinal- mode erbium fiber laser for temperature measurements
A dual-wavelength erbium fiber laser with single-longitudinal-mode characteristic is proposed and demonstrated. The system uses a 7-m-long highly doped erbium-doped fiber as the primary gain medium while two fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) act as a wavelength selection mechanism. The sensing capability of the FBGs gives this source the possibility to be also used in a dual-sensor multiplexing schem...
